Don’t be shocked.
Static dissipative (SD/ESD) shoes safely channel static electricity away from your body to help protect sensitive electronic components and reduce static-shock risk in labs, manufacturing, and clean rooms. It’s the opposite intent of EH…SD conducts a little, on purpose. Every Xena SD style is ASTM F2413-certified and engineered for a woman’s foot.
Controlled static drain, by design.
Static-dissipative (SD/ESD) for electronics and lab work — ASTM F2413-certified, built on a women’s last.
What static dissipative (SD) actually does
An SD outsole drains static electricity from your body to the ground within a controlled resistance range — enough to bleed off charge that could damage ESD-sensitive components, but not so much that it removes shock protection entirely. It’s the standard employers specify for electronics assembly, labs, and clean rooms.
Built for a woman’s foot
We start on a women’s last — narrower heel, higher arch — so the shoe actually holds your foot through a full shift instead of slipping like a shrunk-down men’s mold. A stable shoe is a safer shoe.
SD vs EH — don’t confuse them
SD conducts static safely away (for electronics environments); EH insulates against live circuits (for electrical work). They are opposite ratings, so match the shoe to your hazard. Xena’s SD styles are the Valence and the Astra (White Gold and Charcoal Gray).
FAQ
What does SD / ESD mean?
SD (static dissipative), sometimes called ESD, means the footwear drains static charge from your body to the floor in a controlled way, protecting sensitive electronics and reducing static-shock risk. It's tested to ASTM F2413.
Is SD the same as Electrical Hazard (EH)?
No - they're opposites. SD conducts a small, controlled amount of static away from you (for electronics work); EH insulates you against accidental contact with live circuits (for electrical work). Choose based on your environment.
Which Xena styles are SD-rated?
The Valence and the Astra in White Gold and Charcoal Gray are SD-rated. Each product page lists the exact ratings so you can confirm before you buy.
Can I wear SD shoes for general work?
Yes, absolutely! SD properties don’t negatively impact anything and they're comfortable all-day safety shoes. Static Dissipative features are specifically valuable in static-controlled environments like electronics manufacturing, labs, and clean rooms.
